The Hampton Pool Summer Picnic Concerts started in a modest fashion over two nights in 2002. Taking advantage of the natural mini amphitheatre in the pool grounds, a unique series of summer events to raise funds for the development of the pool were created and have continued, with very few exceptions, every year since.
Over the years, the events have grown to six nights annually and have become a recognised part of the summer festival season in south west London, raising in the region of £100k each year for the Trust. Although external suppliers are paid at commercial rates (eg for the stage, lighting, bar drinks etc), the events are organised and run entirely by volunteers which means that the maximum possible surplus is raised each year to contribute to the future development of the pool.
Artistically, the summer series punches above its weight in terms of the world class performers who have appeared (some several times) over the years. Just a few of the names include: 10cc; ABC; Joan Armatrading; Average White Band; Canned Heat; Lulu; The Stranglers and Ten Years After.
The concerts take place over three weekends in July each year and tickets go on sale at the end of February/early March. They tend to sell out quickly, so sign up to our mailing list to make sure you’re one of the first to hear about them!
